Shipbuilding industry in our country is facing enormous challenges in recent two years, and the relevant ship industry has been laid emphasis by the governments. Remote monitoring for the ship's main engine is the core of marine engineering automation, is also the key part of ship monitoring and control. Network is the development trend of the ship monitoring system, but in China, most of the ship equipments are controlled separately, and there are no network system products now. So it is the time to research the network-based ship monitoring system.The dissertation presents a LAN-based structural model for ship monitoring system, designs a remote network monitoring system for the ship main engine, which is based on the functionality of marine diesel engine and design requirements of the remote monitoring system for the ship main engine. The design uses Visual C++6.0 as software development platform; RS-485 bus and the Ethernet to construct the network system on the basis of MODBUS protocol and TCP/IP protocol; builds the overall framework with the three-level control platform: client computer, industrial computer and single-chip.The remote monitoring system for the ship main engine uses the method of modularization design. The software contains registry modules, serial communication module between industrial computer and single-chip, LAN communication module between the client and the server, database module, backup and recovery modules, inquiry print modules, and so on. Flash and Photoshop are used to beautify system interface.The software was tested in the laboratory, have completed remote monitoring and control of the two sets of marine diesel engine. With the features of network, data Security and scalability, the software not only provides a teaching experimental platform for undergraduates, but also can be easily transplanted to the practical application on ship. The project has good practical value and broad application prospects.
