With the rapid development of urban economy, the size of city has gradually expanded and the population of city has rapidly exploded. Traffic problems have also become more and more obvious, which influences economic growth. Developing public transport has become an inevitable choice to solve traffic problems in major cities. In the public transport system, urban rail transit occupies a dominant position for its advantages in high speed, large capacity, timely and efficient, safe and reliable. The establishment of rail transit would undoubtedly have an effect on bus routes'spatial distribution. There are some disadvantages in traditional research methods, which is difficult to give a comprehensive consideration on various factors of bus routes'spatial layout. According to these problems, this paper proposes the solution, which is to develop the Geographic Information System, and make an intensive study on how to construct this system.In the process of systems study and design, the paper follows closely the subject of mutual influence between rail transit and bus lines. The paper started research on the factors which influence bus routes'spatial distribution, and studied the impacts of rail transit on bus line, then generalized rail transit information and bus line information, designed relevant concept model. Based on these models, the paper designed more integrity concept model. Through the system structure design, data structure design and function module design, applied the concept model to the design of Geographic Information System about the impacts of rail transit on bus routes'spatial distribution. In the penultimate chapter, exemplified by Ningbo Rail Transit Line 1, the paper studied the impacts of rail transit on bus routes'spatial distribution based on GIS.With the study mentioned above, the writer established rail transit-bus impact analysis model, designed attribute data structure, programmed the system basic function module. The impact analysis module can analyze the influence of rail transit on bus routes'spatial distribution, and show the results more visible. Through establishing rail transit-bus impact grade, GIS can adjust bus lines according to the impact grade, which includes grade 1: remain, grade 2: partial adjustment, grade 3: cancel, so that it achieved the main purpose of this paper.
