The scale and quantity of the domestic fundamental construction increase continuously with the developing and good operation of the state economy. The tower crane studied in this paper have been widely used in fundamental construction due to it's high tower body, long boom, wide sphere of action, heavy hoisting weight and so on. But because of the defects of itself and the adverse operation circumstances serious accident happened frequently and causing disastrous damage. The state bureau of technical supervision established and published the"Crane Design Standard"(GB3811-83),"Hoisting Machinery Accident Prevention Instruction of Safety Devices Against Overloading"(GB12602-90), and"Safety Code for Cranes"(GB6067-85)etc. As a result of above reasons, it is necessary to install safety protection action on hoisting machinery.The working mechanism of tower crane is investigated in this work, the types and reasons of accident are analyzed. The hardware structure and software of the digital safety protection system of the trolley type tower crane is designed. Using"dsPIC30F6012"embedded withμC/OS-II real-time operating system as the execution unit of hardware structure to fullfils the monitoring and control function of the system. Finally experimental platform is built based on the needed communication mode, data acquisition and display and the control function of relays. The experimental data is measured and analyzed, the feasibility of the system is validated and the research is summarized and prospected.The scheme and operation of safety protection system is feasible and reliable verification by experiment. A solution scheme is provided for crane safety protection system and the mission of this research is completed preliminarily.
