The crack caused by low temperature for bituminous pavement is the most significant type of damage in the highway engineering of northern area. Even in Changjiang valley with warm climate, the crack can also emerge when the temperature decrease excessively quickly which causes the insufficient relaxation ability for surface layer. However, the present Specifications for Design of Highway Asphalt Pavement in our country has still lack the corresponding target, parameter and control method, in particular there are no relevant research on the effects of the contact condition. Therefore the study on simulation analysis of temperature field and the thermal stress for bituminous pavement has important theory significance regarding the consummation of anti-crack design method under low temperature for bituminous pavement.Firstly, the theory frame and the boundary condition which were used to estimate temperature field were determined based on the heat transfer theory, and the temperature field numerical analysis model for bituminous pavement was built through the application of the ABAQUS finite element software. The influence rules of the temperature decrease speed, the initial temperature on road surface and the thermo dynamics parameter of road material on temperature field in pavement structure were then analyzed, and the results are consistent with actual project, which prove the model is reasonable.Next, combining temperature field numerical analysis model on road and thermo-elasticity theory, the stress analysis model for pavement structure was introduced using ABAQUS finite element software based on the introduction of contact module among pavement structure level. The computed result had indicated the model could simulate evolutionary process of thermal stress in the pavement structure under influence of each kind of factor effectively.Finally, through the application of analysis model on bituminous pavement temperature field and the thermal stress, the mechanics analysis had been developed which covering pavement structure type, the contact condition between the surface layer and the base, the pavement structure boundary condition, thermo-physical property of base, temperature decreasing speed, initial temperature on road surface and so on. The computed result indicated that the contact condition between layers is remarkable to the crack behavior under low temperature for bituminous pavement.
