Today, with the continuous development of digital technology, the impacts of media and capital are becoming increasingly powerful. Encouraged by the Bilbao Effect, architecture is focusing on the two-dimensional visualization. The significance of architecture has been gradually squeezed to skins and shapes. This period of civilization generated by the development of capitalism with a high degree of commercialization was called "the society of spectacle" by Western scholars. In such a superficial era, architecture was simplified to graphic art. A large number of fantastic pictures of architectures flooded the mass media, forming a one-sided architectural propaganda and. Meanwhile, the architectural education system has been inevitably impacted by the spectacle which is detrimental to students who learn architecture. As a traditional mode of study, close reading can help learners to engage in in-depth understanding of the work. In fact, close reading is widely used in China's architectural education. However, it has neither been paid enough attention nor been systematically developed. How to do close reading on architecture was rarely discussed in books. Through the research of close reading on architecture, the aim of this thesis is to find an effective learning method to resist the adverse impact from the times so that students can view and use the mass information resources rationally, to form a more objective and more comprehensive interpretation of architecture. By using close reading effectively, Learners can develop sensitivity and the ability of intergrated thinking, explore the meaning and nature of architecture, and eventually found their own mature view of architecture. The first chapter specifies the background of the times we live in to help the students to understand its limitations. In chapters II and III, by using comparative analysis, borrowing and interpreting, a feasible method of close reading on architecture has been addressed. Chapter IV of the thesis is focusing on the relationship between close reading and creative thinking, accompanied by a large number of examples to prove that the close reading has a positive impact on promoting the ability of creative thinking. In the final chapter, through the comparison of courses from different architectural institutions, the researcher came up with some proposals on China's architectural educational system from the perspective of close reading, and pointed out the strengths and importance of close reading in the study of architecture. Hopefully, this study can provide reference to the architectural education reform.
