The Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning Chongqing University can be traced back to the construction group established by Chongqing University in 1937.In 1952,the related 6 major southwest universities such as the former Chongqing University were merged into the College of civil construction and moved to the present location,which has gone through the period of Chongqing Jianzhu College and Chongqing Jianzhu University until now.The faculty of architecture has become the core resource in field of architecture education in China.This period of 1952-1966 is new exploration independently beginning in field of architecture in China.During this period,the architecture faculty of Chongqing Jianzhu University,gone through many important historical events,has formed characteristic teaching specialty as heritage resource of China.It has established comprehensive architectural education system for future teaching.This paper uses the methods of literature research and oral history research,with archives sorting internal documents of this college,visiting people who have experienced the historical events,excavating some valuable first-hand historical stories which being supported each other against the environment of that moment.This paper tries to sort out the main historical course for architectural education in Chongqing Jianzhu University from 1952 to 1966,and summarizes its main teaching characteristics preliminarily and achievements of design and research.This paper is composed of four parts: "background-historical events – historical theory-conclusion".Part one.The introduction specified the scope of architectural education,which is,architecture,urban and rural project,landscape architecture in trinity as narrow definition of architecture education(excluding civil engineering,environmental engineering etc.)Within this frame of researching,referring to the modern Chinese chronicle,Chinese modern architectural history and the historical division standard of architectural education,and combining with the key events of the Faculty of Architecture,the period of 1962-1966 is staged tentatively.Part two.Chapter 2 in this paper the whole history is sorted out according to the divided stage which was figured out previously,and the relevant information before 1952 of the former Chongqing Jianzhu University is introduced herewith.It is expected to construct more systematic and consecutive process of development of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning Chongqing University in 1952-1966.The third part.Chapter 3 and 5 in this paper elaborate on the unique achievements of theory teaching,design teaching,research and design through the way of special project research.Theory teaching has gradually evolved from extensive simplex teaching system to multi-directional professional teaching system.Design teaching is influenced by the ideological trend of national architectural design,then many design concepts with multi-tendencies came up.Meanwhile,provided the influence of natural environment,theoretical teaching,design teaching and scientific practice show the attention on the mountain environment,the climate of southwest and the humanistic tradition.The regional architecture system has come into bud.Part four.Chapter 6 in this paper,analyze and summarize the overall development of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning Chongqing University from 1952 to 1966.Through itemized analysis,in 1952-1966,the Faculty of Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering gradually formed unique and diversified teaching system.In the field of scientific research,the humanistic history and natural characteristics of southwest region are maintained and sorting.In the field of talent training,a large number of skeleton talents have been trained for the national construction.With the experiences ups and downs,seeking truth and being practical and independent as the academic spirit being delivered and going forward.
