In the fifth National Archaeological Survey, the number of the mountain citadel sites found in Nanzhang area increased to 385, and the wide-ranging and diverse types of those sites is far greater than expected. According to the survey on cultural relics and my own field work, the situation of the current mountain sites in the region of Nanzhang remains ambiguous, the natural and man-made damage on the sites are increasing. Therefore, the research on the conservation and utilization of the mountain citadel sites based on the previous studies must be conducted.The great quantity of the Nanzhang mountain citadel sites requires the conservation and utilization that based on the analysis of their value composition, value orientation and classification, in addition, this basic work can make the conservation and utilization more efficient. Through the combination of qualitative and quantitative assessment, under the grading system of China's cultural heritage, 34 sites selected in this paper as the objects of the valuation of the site were divided into six levels. According to the grading results, formulated the corresponding control standards, then, put feasible relevant thinking into the corresponding strategy for the conservation and utilization.According to the results of the value assessment, extracted the Chunqiu and woniushan mountain citadel sites of gradeâ… as the typical mountain citadel sites. Then, conducted the researches on the targeted strategies and measures of the conservation and utilization. Specific contents are: the conservation planning, the tourism planning, the protection of architectural ontology, the protection and utilization of the intangible heritages, and the new-built ancient mountain citadel museum.
