According to 2007 Annual Report on China Building Energy Efficiency, energy consumption of buildings accounts for 18.8% of total energy consumption in China. In most developed countries, the proportion can be as high as 1/3. Significant amount of energy consumed in buildings is unreasonable. Most modern buildings utilize building automation system now. The use of sensors, actuators and programmatic control sequence increases the degree of building automation, but also increases the possibility of deviation of system performance. In fact, few systems perform as intended. According to previous research results, energy saving potential in existing systems ranges from 5% to 30% of total system energy consumption.This thesis explored the pre-screen method of air-side HVAC commissioning. The purpose is to develop a simple and fast method in order to understand the distribution of cooling and heating energy and detect unreasonable cooling and heating counteraction in air-side HVAC system.This study is based on engineering in practice. The main contents include the following three parts.1. Built simplified model for air-side HVAC system energy consumption prediction based on fundamental principles. Input ranges have been investigated and modeling uncertainty has been considered.2. Quantified the impact of input factors using standard regression coefficient, which further decreases the time and effort for information collection in commissioning.3. Applied the pre-screen method to an on-campus building in the United States. The breakdown of cooling and heating energy consumption of air-side HVAC system has been studied. And the amount of unreasonable cooling and heating counteraction has been detected and estimated.
