Distribution lines play a main role in power system, and the condition monitoring is the important target of smart grids construction. The improvement of management level and the enhancement of the reliability for power system heavily rely on the condition monitoring information. The acquisition of status information through the full application of sensor networks, embedded techniques and real-time applications becomes very important. In this dissertation, the monitoring system can record the lightning, grounding resistance, insulator leakage currents and resistive current of MOA, and transfers the data to the server in the grids monitoring center for analysis and decision in real-time, which provides a theoretical basis and engineering guidance for maintenance of distribution lines.The dissertation focuses on the condition monitoring problems, and the security monitoring of distribution lines is designed by adopting mature detection methods and advanced embedded techniques. The main contribution and completed work in this dissertation show as follows:â’ˆTaking the tower as a monitoring unit, all factors affected the distribution lines security are considered. A novel security monitoring framework is presented by selecting suitable sensors and testing methods, it involves the lightning, grounding resistance, insulator, surge arrester, icing condition and burglar alarm, which accords with the smart grids development.â’‰The hardware circuits for all terminals are designed with the advanced ARM processor based on Cortex-M3 as the nucleus, which include processor circuit, memory interface circuit, communication interface circuit, signal conditioning circuit and power management circuit. The reliable hardware platforms are built with completely consideration of EMI and low power consumption management.â’ŠTaking the front-back system as the software framework for all terminal, the calendar, signal acquisition routines, memory access, communication and power management routine are designed. The low power consumption control mechanism based on RTC clock is constructed and watchdog routine for system reliability also is considered.â’‹Combining the short distance RF networks with GPRS, the wireless sensor network (WSN) is built, and the basic protocols are introduced. Finally the data security is also considered here, a simple safeguard mechanism based on encryption techniques is presented.The main functions for condition monitoring system are realized with superior performance by many experiments and debugging in the laboratory. Early field applications show that it can meet the demands of power department.
