Optimizing the ground operation of aircrafts in congested airport and evaluating the ground capacity impersonally, scientifically and accurately is the best potent measure to improve the efficiency of surface traffic and increase the throughout in the airport.Based on the background of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the evaluation of parallel runways airport ground capacity was systematically, scientifically and deeply researched in this paper from theory to practical application. First of all, an overview of the background, the definition of airport ground capacity and the relationship between airport ground capacity and delay time were discussed, and then this paper summarized the former theories and methods of capacity evaluation home and abroad. Then it explained the concepts on the operation of parallel runways and established the model of parallel runways, taxiways and aprons theoretically. Then it focused on algorithms and strategies of ground capacity evaluation in the airport with parallel runways, which included algorithms of the generation of simulation flight flows, strategies of ground conflict detection and resolution, algorithms of taxi planning and gate assignments. According to the operation rules and running characteristics of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, it abstracted the airport ground network and established the evaluation model of ground capacity in the airport with parallel runways, then eventually developed the airport ground capacity evaluation system. Finally, by analyzing actuality of ground operation in the airport with computer simulation, we made comparisons and analysis of airport ground capacity, times of ground conflict detection and resolution under different strategies of ground operation and relationship between flight volume and delay time. Suggestions were also given to ease the congested operation of airport ground and increase ground capacity. This instance justified the accuracy of evaluation model and the reliability of simulation system.
