Current situation of closely spaced parallel runways’operation for contribution to the development of China civil aviation is not high. Closely spaced parallel runway operations does not fully play its role. Therefore, as China’s number of closely spaced parallel runways increasing, research on how to improve the operating efficiency of closely spaced parallel runways is the trend.Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is a demonstration of closely spaced parallel runways running. In this paper, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport embodiment paired approaches the feasibility of this new technology were studied. The main contents are as follows:First, Target levels of safety(TLS) for China’s civil aviation transportation is studied. Statistical analysis on the data of civil aviation safety report in China in recent years, determined the applicable minimum of the target levels of safety for the approach phase. Then, introduced the basic concept of the paired approaches, described and analyzed the ideas and methods of the paired approaches. According to the relative position between the aircrafts, paired approaches is divided into fast aircraft can not go beyond the slow aircraft pairing mode and fast aircraft beyond the slow aircraft pairing mode. For each mode of safe zones are analyzed. Safety region of the former paired mode is composed of safety collision boundary and tail flow border security composition. Safety region of the other mode is composed of tail flow front and tail flow security community composition. Starting from the characteristics of movement and the angle of the aircraft tail flow, studied the safety zone of two pairing modes. Got the faster aircraft’s range of motion based on final approach fix (FAF). On this basis, focusing on between pairs of aircrafts longitudinal spacing of the collision risk were studied and has been paired in recent total collision risk. Finally, through the example calculation to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport implementing matching approach of safety was evaluated, according to the San Francisco Airport paired approaches operation. Considering the factors of’person, machine, environment and management’, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport implementation paired approaches’ feasibility is analyzed.The research to the Hongqiao Airport implementation paired approach which is a new technology to provide theoretical support, for closely spaced parallel runways operation mode provide a reference to further enhance the runway operation efficiency and improve the capacity of the airport.
