Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Battery is widely applied to the DC systems of power stations, hospitals, communications and so on. It is very important for the VRLA battery to work safely and reliably. So it should install battery monitoring system to VRLA battery for keeping normal functions. Consequently, this dissertation conducts a further research on an on-line battery monitoring system which basing on the Ethernet communication technology.Firstly, this dissertation gives an introduction on the operating principle of the VRLA battery as well as the battery parameters. The basic reasons which have influence on the life-time of VRLA battery are also summarized. After summarizing solutions that used before, the overall plan of the on-line battery monitoring system, the chips of different kinds of modules are selected and the hardware and software of the system are designed in according with the basic requirement. The test results improve that the system functions well and meets the expectation.The INA148from Taxus Instrument is used as the voltage acquiring amplifier in this system. The controller is made from the TMS320F2812. Using TCP/IP, the system can communicate with the computer via Ethernet interface.
