As the vehicle electronic technology is developing quite fast, the electronic parking brake system (EPB) is likely to become an essential part of the vehicle. The content of this paper is about the design and research on the pneumatic parking brake system. And this system is designed to replace the traditional parking system of commercial vehicles.After going through related domestic and foreign technology, this paper put forward the overall design scheme of the system. And according to the scheme and requirements, the system was developed from two parts, including hardware part and software part. The hardware part contained the actuators, sensors and electronic control unit. On the control strategy, this system developed corresponding control method for both common roads and slopes and mainly focused on the hill-start control strategies. After evaluation Bang-Bang control Algorithm was selected for hill-start control.To verify the function of the system, the test bench was built to simulate the running condition of the vehicle and to test the performance of the actuator. The results showed shat both the hardware and software parts worked well and the Bang-Bang control achieved the desired control objectives.
