Pressure equipment such as Pressure vessels play an increasingly important role in modern industry. It will directly affect the stability of the national economy and social life because its characteristics of high pressure and temperature and the risk of carrying media and the disastrous consequence of accident. The principle of’conform to use’ based on fracture mechanic has widely used in safety assessment of pressure vessel defects to prevent an accident effectively and manage the inevitable crack defect of pressure vessel by the process of manufacture and use.Because of the characteristic of the pressure vessel defects safety assessment method of large workload and low efficiency, the paper finished the feasibility analysis, the demand analysis, the overall design, the interface design of pressure vessel safety assessment software based on the theory system of fracture mechanic and the standard of ’safety assessment of pressure vessel in use containing defects’(GB/T19624-2004) and the knowledge of software engineering. Software develops on modular design, and has finished the input and integration of assessment data and the choice of assessment method and the output and storage of assessment result. And it realize the method of simplified, regular and fatigue assessment stipulated in standard. By completing the actual assessment example and compared with artificial traditional assessment, assessment by software prove that can realize valid assessment in pressure vessel defects, and can improve the efficiency of the assessment process and the accuracy and reliability of the assessment result.The paper also introduces the artificial neural network method and analyze it to be used in safety assessment of pressure vessel defects, and preliminary study by using MATLAB neural network toolbox. It provides a new thought and solution for safety assessment of pressure vessel defects.
