For the limitations of our country’s early design codes, Supervision Regulation on Safety technology for Stationary Pressure Vessel categroyIII stipulated that the design of the important pressure vessel, which with large, high parameter and high risk, must make a risk assessment report including the major failure modes and risk control.This issue based on Risk and Lifetime Based Design, and considered the pressure vessel categroyIII’s working environment, such as temperature, pressure, medium and working condition etc. Analysed the effect of risk to the equipment’s safety and age, and built a risk assessment system include the major failure mode identification, risk quantitative calculation and risk control etc. And compiled a set of risk assessment software used in design phase of pressure vessel. Because of the risk assessment’s diffculties in design phase and complicated calculation, artificial calculation often was difficult to meet the standards and reliability. So, the system development of the pressure vessel’s risk assessment software for design phase effectively solved the computation mode of the artificial risk assessment and enhanced the risk assessment’s efficiency and accuracy.This software used the programme language Visual Basic6.0to develop, and used the Access database technology to establish database, include pressure vessel material database, fluid components database, failure mode and failure mechanism database, preventive measure database etc. Users can easily operate it and realize it’s function, such as inquiry, change, add, delete etc. It can identificate the possible failure mode and failure mechanism of pressure vessel for design phase, calculate quantitatively the failure possibility and failure consequence and get a risk assessmemt report. The operator don’t need general training, just follow the prompts to select the design parameters and realise the risk assessment for design phase. Moreover, the system is extensible, important and upgraded.Ultimately, the parameter of a refinery’s hydrogenation reactor are used to test the system’s reliability and retionality, and assessed it’s risk. The software reached the expected effect and satisfied the engineering’s demand.
