The rapid development of society promote the progress of automotive electronic technology, the application in automobile is becoming more and more. This subject comes from the first research institute of telecommunications technology of emergency communications command vehicle monitoring and management of project,and according to the present situation and development trend of the automobile electronic technology, based on advanced technology of CANopen protocol based on CAN bus, according to the requirements of the project to imitate and cut to CANopen protocol, to make a set of protocol named mini CAN, which based on CAN application layer suitable for low cost, short cycle environment. According to the demand of the system, the paper design a system based on Linux operating system embedded in ARM system. The paper finished the mini CAN protocol and verification of communication to it.According to the function,the paper divided the protocol into four modules to finished it. It used the socket CAN to provide APIs to upper strata, used multi thread mechanism to proposal the information, configure the XML document according to the property of automotive information, and realize the transformation of automotive information in the application layer. The system use the ARM Cortex A8 CPU,expand two lines of CANBUS to simulate the automotive field bus. It loads the bootloader program to guide the Linux Operating system, and it set up a cross compiler environment in the host, transplant the software to the embedded system.The mini CAN protocol imitate the CANopen protocol, but it’s more simple,be good at transplantation and low cost compared to the CANopen, and Suitable for fast, low-cost development environment.
