Research on the stability of tailings is of great important. Tailings dam collapse would causehuge geological and casualties accidents, which not only impedes the safe production of mines, but also influences the surrounding natural environment and bears enormous economic loss. Therefore, the research work has important practical significance. In this paper, based on the Deposition law of tailings materials, to carry out the constituentmaterials and tailings deposited material mechanical properties and special permeability studies, using a variety of permeability theory and stability analysis method, the stability of tailings makea reasonable assessment of the mine safe operation and routine maintenance of reasonablesuggestions, has a very important practical significance and value. The soft foundation of tailingwas forced by waste volume, which caused the collapse of tailings dam. By using numericalsimulation method, the stability of dump including the most dangerous slip surface and theminimum safety factor was studied. The specific contents are as follows:(1)The failure models of tailing dam were simply classified, and the failure reasons weresummarized. Such as flood、drainage system problem, the damage of dam structures, seismicforce effect, et al. Based on that, we find the cause of tailing dam failure, and the possible path ofdam-break. Meanwhile, the dam-break factors such as the packing mode of tailing dam, theboundary conditions, internal weakness and natural environment around should be taken intoconsidered too.(2) Calculate flood routing of both the east and west tailings in case50years and200years.The results show that the drainage system of East tailings is better able to meet the requirements, but the two holes closest to the West tailings dam, under water level monitoring, the averagemeasured water levels are less than2m from the surface, the results are unsatisfactory.(3) According to flood routing results, the tailings dam seepage stability calculations foranalysis, the results showed that: the existing level, assuming50years and the200-year flood andother types of cases, when the current crest elevation, Saturation line of East tailings was nooverflow, in steady state infiltration; West tailings water level in the penetration of the existingstable operation in the flood, Saturation line may overflow from135.1m elevation, in whichassumed under extreme conditions, tailings stability can not meet the regulatory requirements, there will occur infiltration and sabotage(4) Based on the tailings in a mine, using the limit equilibrium principle, under normaloperating conditions, floods operating conditions (50years and200years) conditions, numericalsimulation was done to analysis and evaluate the safety of tailings dam. The results show that the minimum safety factors obtained from the three method, Bishop method、Janbu method andMorgenstern-Price are greater than2.0. So the tailings dam is stable.
