As the largest environmental protection project,the tailings pond is also a dangerous source with high potential energy.Its operation is not only related to the mine production and construction,but also related to the people's lives and property safety and the surrounding environment downstream.In China,the phenomenon of dam break is generally high,which is mainly caused by flood overtopping.Therefore,this paper takes Majiagou 2# tailings dam as the prototype,using model test as the starting point,studying on the tailings dam flood overtopping failure evolution law.It provides an important reference value for dam break disaster prevention,and has significant economic and social significance.The main work and results achieved are as follows:(1)This paper made a detailed summary and analysis on the cause and the influence range of dam break,and pointed out some problems of tailings dam break research,then gave some suggestions.(2)With grasping the basic information of tailings dam,through field investigation sampling,soil tests were carried out in accordance with the corresponding test procedures,the prototype soil cohesion,internal friction angle,particle size distribution and other basic physical indexes were obtained,which provided a basis for dam break test.(3)In order to make the model dam similar to the prototype in dam break mechanism,the effect of different compaction degree on the strength of the original clay was studied.To further explore the indoor flume experiment of different scale compared with the prototype,the reasonable compaction degree of the formal model dam was determined.(4)Based on the terrain and similarity theory,the physical model experiment platform was designed and built,and the similar scale and the selection of similar material were given.(5)According to the actual data,model dam and model sand in pond were built on the experimental platform.The flood overtopping test of tailings dam due to heavy rain was simulated.Based on the record of dam break process,four main stages of the failure process of dam body was analyzed in detail,and the important data such as dam break flood hydrograph,the flow hydrograph and the final submergence range were dissected.Further understanding of the evolution process of dam break flood deepened the cognizance of dam break mechanism.Through the analysis of experimental results,we can see that although the dam break flood has not spread to the focus area of Xu Jia-Long,the pond and rice fields beside have been affected,there are certain economic losses.So we still need to attach great importance to the impact of dam break.It points out that tailings pond should be paid attention to some problems in the design and following normal operation,which provides reference for relevant personnel.
