With the improvement of automotive electronics applications level, conventional maintenance means of automobile can’t satisfy its requirements completely. Using the real-time fault detection techniques, we can monitor parameters of automobile electricity control system through on-board network and record relative fault information. So, this can not only bring the convenience to automobile maintenance but also increase security, comfort and green environment of automobile. The techniques of on-board fault diagnoses have been more and more attached vast importance to by government, automobile production factory and research organization. For OBD-II standard has unified fault codes, connects, network communication protocol and etc, we can monitor relative real-time parameters and record fault information. At present, OBD-II system has already been extensively applied to automobile of almost all automobile factories in the world.The on-board monitor and fault diagnosis system is the vehicle maintenance support equipment which connects OBD-II system with embedded equipments, records and displays fault information and relative parameters of automobile in running. Consequently, it is a novel fault diagnosis system that uses embedded technique, fault diagnosis technique and software technique.Through research of embedded system and automobile fault diagnosis, a platform for on-board monitor and fault diagnosis system based on OBD-II technique is proposed in this dissertation. Also, the application software of detection and diagnosis on this hardware platform has been realized. The hardware platform is consisted of S3C2440A processor, external storage equipment, LCD, touch screen, kinds of interfaces and the assistance circuit for power supply system, clock system and system debugging. The hardware platform can completely satisfy the request of on-board fault diagnosis system based on the results of experiments. The software design mainly includes the transplantating of Bootloader and Linux core, the design and development of on-board monitor and fault diagnosis GUI system based on the MiniGUI 1.3.3 graphical user interface support system of Beijing Feynman Software Technology Co.,Ltd. The system can display various information of automobile and carry out human-computer interaction.
