The bearing capacity and the service life of harmonic drive is mainly decided by flexspline, which is a key component of harmonic drive. In order to calculate conveniently, researchers usually adopt some simplification methods in the gear ring of flexspline in the research of stress and deformation of flexspline based on the finite element model. The finite element models can’t reflect profile of gear tooth and the real shape of dedendum accurately,. which results in the deviation between the stress analysis results and the actual situation. Therefore,. this study proposes a modeling method of harmonic drive with real involute tooth shape.Based on language APDL, a parameterized solid model is set up, includes important parameters such as tooth thickness, tooth root pour round radius, alveolar wall thickness and so on, and according to the involute equation of flexspline, parameterizes the involute tooth profile by using dichotomy, simulating the force of flexspline in assembly condition as accurately as possible, obtaining deformation and stress of flexspline in assembly condition through ANSYS. Compared these results with analysis of deformation and stress results of calculation formula of the existing theoretical model, design specification and finite element model based on shell unit. The research has shown that theoretical value and design specification value are smaller.On the basis of solid finite element model, calculating the tooth thickness, tooth root pour round radius and alveolar wall thickness, analyzing their influence on the stress of flexspline. The research has shown that through increasing tooth width appropriately can reduce the highest stress in assembly condition, which provides the theory basis for the key parameters of the slot width of harmonic gear optimum design, as well as lays the foundation for the follow-up of meshing force calculation.A method to calculate backlash is proposed based on the deformation results of the solid FEA model of flexspline and rigid tooth parameters. We can obtain the backlash result through this method. Based on the 3D solid model with involute tooth profile established by APDL language, the stress distribution and deformation of flexible in assembly condition are analyzed comprehensively.
