In general, heavy machinery manufacturers usually produce customized products with great investment, complex structures, long production cycle and low manufacturing reproducibility, so the product quality has been the focus and difficulty for them. Project management provides a new strategic perspective for the manufacturers, and project manufacturing is becoming a hot spot of research and application. Therefore, the research on quality management of the heavy machinery manufacturing has great theoretical and practical significance.This paper systematically analyzes and compares the following contents:projects and jobs, project manufacturing and traditional products manufacturing, project manufacturing and construction projects, project quality management system and enterprise quality management system. Then based on the analysis of the characteristics of heavy machinery manufacturing projects and the processes of project manufacturing, and the theory of project management and quality management, the article establishes a relatively exhaustive quality management system for the project manufacturing of heavy machinery from the aspect of quality planning, quality control and quality assurance. From the perspective of life cycle of project manufacturing, the article focuses on analyzing and establishing factor control and step control in quality control of each stage, from designing, manufacturing, installation and delivery to after-sale service. Finally, the empirical research is conducted on basis of typical project manufacturing cases, and the demonstration is given in terms of preparations of project quality planning, quality control in every stage of the manufacturing process and the key points of quality control, which makes the article an excellent reference for practical application of quality management system of heavy machinery project manufacturing.
