As a core component for realizing intermittent indexing function, the globoidal indexing cam mechanism has been widely applied in various automatic machineries. Although it has derived from the conventional cam mechanism, with the development until this moment, it has been distinguished, to a large extent, from the conventional cam mechanism in terms of designing theories and methodologies, as well as the manufacturing and engineering application of cam bodies, which also serves as the foundation of the development and innovation of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism. Given that modern cam mechanism has been applied in increasingly extensive range of occasions, the globoidal indexing cam mechanism also requires improvements in order to overcome its own weaknesses and adapt to new demands. Its application range has not been limited at serving as a guiding mechanism or a control mechanism under low speed; furthermore, it has been more and more widely applied in occasions under intermediate-and high-speed, in which, problems occur in respect of roller shape design and processing methodologies of the conventional cylindrical roller globoidal indexing cam mechanism, which have resulted in severe wear damage on rollers and cam profiles, reduced indexing precision, and increased relevant costs. However, fewer researches on these problems have been performed by domestic scholars specifically and separately, without any effective summaries and inductions to the methodologies and procedures.The article has studied on the globoidal indexing cam mechanism from various aspects including mathematical modelling, CAD techniques, kinematic analysis and NC processing simulation. Firstly, by using differential geometry theory, vector mathematics and conjugate principle of space envelope surface, it evolves the theoretical working profile equation of tapered roller globoidal cam, and designs structural parameters for the mechanism. Secondly, it applies PRO/E software for three-dimentional simulation modelling; with the help of three-dimentional model and the ideal trajectory curve, it can discover problems in cam design more intuitively, find out the curved surface of interference and rectify it accordingly, so as to obtain better anticipated motion of the mechanism. Thirdly, it uses ADAMS software to carry out motion simulation on the three-dimentional model of the mechanism, analyze angular displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration of the disk, and check whether or not it is capable of completing the anticipated motion, so as to test and verify the validity of equation derivation, parameter design and three-dimentional modelling. Subsequently, it evolves the cutter control equation on the basis of one-side machining theory of tapered roller globoidal indexing cam mechanism, and uses MATLAB software to analyze and compute machining errors, in order to verify the feasibility of its machining methodologies. Finally, it performs machining simulation through the usage of the NC machining blocks of the Creo software for direct view of the machining effects, and generates a NC code for actual machining. In the end, it develops a programming method applicable for NC machining of tapered roller globoidal indexing cam.The article has well integrated theoretical calculation, three-dimensional modelling, motion simulation, one-side machining and NC machining simulation by following mutually intertwined procedures. It has realized the integration of design and manufacture of tapered roller globoidal indexing cam mechanism.
