With the continuous improvement of the domestic economic development and people’s living standards, residents car purchase rigid demand, the car retains the quantity sustained a rapid growth trend. At the same time, the process of urbanization continues to accelerate, urban space is expansion, and the car has not only become residents travel to mode of transportation, but also has a profound impact on the urban spatial structure and the transportation development. Therefore, it is very important to guide and control the growth of the car in order to achieve the sustainable development of urban traffic. In China, the car belongs to the family of common resources, car use mainly to the family unit, serving the entire family, not the individual. At the same time, Activity-Based Approach believes that the family is a system, and analyzing activity from the perspective of home-based is more complicated than that from a individual-based. When making decisions, individual need to consider the activities plan of other family members to maximize the utility of the family. However, domestic researches on car travel behaviors only considers the family property and personal property characteristics, and ignore the impact of family interaction which makes them difficult to describe the internal mechanism of car travel decisions accurately. In addition, daily activity space is generated by the spatial extent of workplace activities and travel habitual residents participating initiator composition. Time geography suggested that daily family activity space can intuitively reflect the residents in the urban space by the constraints of time and space, and it can provide a decision-making environment to family members for schedule-car travel plan.Based on the above background, this paper takes daily activity space as the perspective, the family car usage behaviors as the research object. By combining activity analysis and time geography and using the travel survey data of Qujinginhabitants activity, we explore the mutual influence of the social and economic attributes of the residents on the activities of the family and the use of cars. The main work of the paper includes the following aspects:First, through the analysis of the basic theory of the decision of family activities, this paper reveals the impact of the family to its members’travel activity decision. After that, this paper expounds the basic theory of daily family activity space, and based on activity analysis of activities of daily living space research, the daily family activity space activity travel decision framework is proposed.Secondly, this paper uses the travel survey data of Qujing city resident activities to compare and analyze the property features of-car-owning families and car-free families, car users and users of other means, and the usage of cars and its spatial and temporal structure characteristics of cars are analyzed. Then, the confidence ellipse method of working space for daily activities of residents is used to measure the intensity of use of the area and daily activities by car space. And then the usage mode of household car is proposed. Finally, according to the urban core activities of the family car-travel decision-making process, this paper establishes the interaction model between family members activity arrangements and car usage under daily activities using structural equation model and analyze the influence mechanism of space activities and daily family interaction on the family activity-travel decisions.Through analysis, the paper comes to the following conclusions:(1) the six kinds of car usage patterns are proposed:high strength type vehicles, high car-dependent, reasonable-type car, low car-dependent, potential type car and no demand type car. (2) The increases in the daily living space of residents will lead to the increase the number of cars used by male and female parents, which will affect the family members’activities. (3) The constraints of time and space members are subject to determine the right to the use of cars. Family members, due to participate in the activities of subsistence by large spatial and temporal control of, are more likely to get priority to the use of cars. The activity arrangements among the members will further influence the allocation of car usage. Male parents have priority to car usage and male parents are prone to car dependence. (4) Male parents use cars more for living activities; female parents use cars more for life activities. (5) The interaction between residents’daily activities and family members has a significant impact on family activity-travel decisions.
