Under the background of a scientific research project, aiming at a problem of the frequent breaking of the neck of mortar projectile rear wing in the tests in mortar firing range, finite element analysis were conducted in this paper about the influential factors on the breaking in the gun bore. The main work is as follows:(1) The Hypermesh software was used to mesh and model the connections among the structure components of gun barrel, base plate, gun mount and mortar projectile, then the finite element model of the whole mortar structure system was established.(2) Based on the principles and steps of modal analysis, the finite element analysis model of the whole mortar structyre was built in Abaqus software. The whole mortar structure system’s free modal frequency and vibration mode of the three different configurations which the projectile locating in the gun barrel’s tail, middle and muzzle were extracted by the method of Lanczos.(3) With the projectile-barrel’s contacts and collisions taken into consideration, the whole mortar dynamic nonlinear finite element model was established in Abaqus software. The mortar firing process was simulated by the Abaqus/Explicit solution solver. And the projectile’s velocity and the muzzle and projectile’s disturbance were obtained. The research of the effect on the neck of mortar projectile rear wing with different clearance between projectile and gun barrel and different soil characteristics was emphasized.(4) Based on the optimization method of parameterized structure, regarding the clearance between projectile and gun barrel as the design variables, the parameterized finite element model was established. Regarding the projectile’s displacement, angular displacement and angular velocity as the optimization function, the optimal fit clearance value was obtained by the multi-objective optimization method available in Isight software, which provids a practical guide for the matching design of the mortar projectile and gun barrel.
