In this paper, from the viewpoint of technical economics, the construction cost, maintenance cost and vehicle transportation cost of different axle 條oad limits in the main highway of Hebei province are analyzed, and the method of selecting the reasonable axle-load limit was put forward. First, the axle-load distribution model of heavy vehicles are constructed on the basis of statistical data. In chapter 3, the effect of axleload limits on pavement design thickness is discussed, and according to the length and class of construction highways, the increased construction cost is evaluated owing to the increase of axle-load limit. And at the same time, effect of axle-load limits on the pavement life and maintenance cost are analyzed. In chapter 4, the influence of axle-load limits on bridge bearing capacity is preliminary studied. In chapter 5, the model of the relationship between payload and vehicle transportation cost is founded on statistical figures and results of models. Finally, the method of selecting the reasonable axle-load limit was put forward. By analyzing synthetically different costs as well as the total transportation cost, a reasonable axle-load limit which is suitable for the highway and transportation situation in Hebei province is suggested.
