Street generates with city抯 naissance. When people made the first city, in order to contact with others, they left some linear space betweenArchitectures. This space is the original street. In the beginning, the main function of street is traffic. But along with society抯 development, the social function of the street becomes more and more plentiful. The activities in the street such as walking, amusement, shopping, chat with other people and so on, gradually become the pleasance of people抯 daily life, and also become the beautiful scenery in the city. The relation between the street and the city is tightly conjoint. It can be said that if the city haven抰 street, it could not be a city.In the recent two century, industrial civilization brought great revolution. The development of the city is very fast. Modern fastness traffic system such as mobile cars takes the place of slowly traffic system such as walking and carriage. The traditional form of the street was alternated because it can抰 befit this new traffic system. The street becomes broad; the architectures on the sides of the street become higher and larger. So modernism plan theory appears. But it excessively accentuates the city抯 material character, ignore people抯 psychic essential in the city, such as the form of life, cultural tradition, landscape feature and so on. The city space is rigid and inflexible. The street becomes purely communicative space. Because of the satisfaction in the material life, people look for spiritual requirement. Humanism is arisen, and gets into the conception of the architecture design and the city plan. How to create the nice form of the street space is becoming the central issue of the research. The famous scientist of our country Qian Xuesen takes the lead in preferring the conception 搇andscape city? He said, 揕andscape city should combines our traditional culture with foreign culture, combines city park with city forest. It should be the model of our socialistic country in the 21 century.?In the following text, I抣l discuss the form of the street space in the landscape city on physical and mental aspects.Because there are people acting in the space, they gift vitality and meaning for the space, change space into locale. The street is the most important exterior public space in the city. It also is the locale of people抯 daily activity. So the street should have the two fundamental characters of the locale梠rientation and identification. Orientation provides foundation for people to conform his location, and identification makes people identify the street, vise versa. To create the street locale involves many elements such as architecture, natural landscape, and sculptures etc. their composition and coalition constitute changeable street. They also correlate with people抯 vision and daily activity. Inthe design of the street space in the landscape city, we should syncretize the above elements to perfect embody the natural landscape with artificial city.In the last part of the text, I use two realistic examples to probe into and validate the relational theories in the thesis. I hope I could put forward some valid methods in making the good street space of the landscape city.
