This paPer presents the results of experimental and analytical studies concemingflexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externallybonded CFRP laminates to the tension face of the beams. Four rectanguIar beamswere tested experimentally to evaluate the strength enhancement provided by CFRPplates, one of the beams was not reinforced by CFar and the rest were reinforced bysingle or double layer CFRP plates with or Wthout anchor. Crack width.load-displacement. ultimate load and failure mode were measured and observed. Theresults of experimental program clearly indicate that significant strengthening ofreinfOrced concrete beams can be realized by bonding CFRP to the tension face ofthe beaxn, meanwhile the ductibility of beams decreased. An availabIe analyticalproceduce derived from plane assumption for evaluating the ultimate flexuralcaPacity of CFRP strengthened reinforced concrete flexural member under threefailure modes (the CFRP rupture mode, the concrete crushing mode and the concretecrushing followed by CFRP ruptUre mode) is presented and compare to the results ofexperimental. The load-displacement curves and moment-curvature curves thatcalculated from the full-course analysis program are in accordance with the resuIts ofexperimental especially in prime period of Ioad presents the program is avaiIable.
