Ship Handling Simulator has gained wide application fields such as Navigation Education Training, Scientific Research and Port Project Designing, etc. Although SHS (Ship Handling Simulator) works so realistically at the Radar/ARPA simulation, ship movement mathematical models and 3-Dimensional scene, etc, is it feasible for it to provide an automatic and objective evaluation function with given models or principles in order to bring about some evaluation functions? The above question has gradually become more and more concerned by its makers and users along with its wide use since 1980's. But up to now, there is no navigation simulator belonging to any country which is provided with the automatic and objective evaluation function which is satisfying and has been certified by authoritative organization.Certainly, the way from research to being accepted for evaluation function of navigation simulator will prove rough because of many kinds of works that have to be done, however, this thesis only emphasizes on the research of evaluation models which is the most important and key content of evaluation function. Furthermore, as far as the author's competence is concerned, this thesis has to take a try on research only on evaluation of ship's voyaging risk in SHS. Evaluation models of ship's collision risk in open sea, ship's grounding risk in narrow channel, ship's collision risk in narrow channel and ship's risk in switching area are put forward. This thesis is summarily composed by the following three parts:Firstly, In the presentation of why the author selects this research subject and how the subject can be resolved, this thesis establishes the concept of evaluation function of ship's voyaging risk and user's handling level, and gives the simple classification. Also, the principle of measuring ship's spare safety field in different areas is the basic method and principle in model research.Secondly, under the discussion of ship's risk in open sea, straight channel, winding channel and switch area, and by applying the tool of fuzzy assessment, this thesis put forwards the evaluation models of ship's grounding risk and ship's collision risk in relevant area based on SHS.Thirdly, the evaluation models have some tests in the simple simulation environment.Owing to the author's limited competence, this thesis only put forward some simple models, but what this thesis expect most is the latter good models and perfect functions of SHS. All is done to improve and extend the application of SHS.
