In order to solve the problem of stable burning anthracite, W flame boiler is a new boiler configuration introduced to our country in the early of 1990s. It has been proved that the boiler has more advantages, such as firing condition, minimum stable combustion load rate, burning anthracite and lean coals, capacity of stable combustion and decreasing NOx emission. Therefore, the boiler will be widely used in our country. This paper summarized the introduction of W flame boiler, design features, layouts lf boiler, the comparison of W flame boiler and conventional combustion modes and the operating results, more important, the calculation of this kind boiler furnace is exploited. Because the technology has been introduced for less than 10 years, it is not quite perfect, and there are no reasonable rules for calculation. So in the thermal calculation of 660MW class W flame boiler of Hanfeng Power Plant, the Soviet rules were used. To find the appropriate method of this boiler, various methods were used. Through the comparison of the results, some useful suggestions of calculation were given. The ideology and experience regarding design of large capacity W flame units in foreign countries should be further acknowledged, this can be an example for us to draw a more reasonable rules and methods of calculation. In this thesis, the systematic numerical simulations were conducted for W flame boiler furnace. The simulations of flow, heat transfer, combustion, and analysis of the results got pleased collusions.The k-εmodel was used in simulation of gas flow. PSIC method in Lagrangean coordinates system was used in tracing the tracks of particle. In simulation of heat transfer, Network-analysis method was selected. By program an large-scale application software, reasonable flow, the distribution of temperature have been gotten.
