The paper is divided into two parts. First, nonlinear finite element analysis for R.C. frames with special-shaped columns is did by suitable material strength criteria and constitutive relation. The result of analysis is much match to experiments. Second, some calculating formulae of flexural bearing capacity of special-shaped section columns are proposed by assuming structure have no torsion. A method to calculate shear bearing capacity in storey for beam hinge failure mechanisms and mixed hinge failure mechanisms is presented respectively. According to experiments, elastic-plastic storey drift chord rotation limiting value for frames with special- shaped columns that reserved some deforming capability. The analysis of example indicates R.C. frames with special-shaped columns have some extent of deformation capacity, it can be used in seismic areas.
