In this thesis, the energy dissipation-seismic reduction of coupled translation-torsion response of eccentric structure has been studied. According to the basic theory of structural vibration control, the viscous dampers are set in orthogonal directions to control the translation-torsion response of the eccentric structure under earthquake actions. And the viscous dampers' optimum installation in structure is carried out.The equations of motion of an eccentric building with viscous dampers under earthquake actions are established. The dynamics analysis of the structural model both with and without viscous dampers are carried out by using the complex modal method, and the corresponding programs are compiled. For an engineering example, the above theory and the programs are used to calculate the seismic response of the structure both with and without viscous dampers. In comparison with the results of ANSYS, FEA software, the results of the programs are satisfying.As for the viscous dampers' optimum installation in structure, the passive control strategy based on the structural sensitivity analysis and structural dynamics modification is proposed, and applied in energy dissipation and damping control of eccentric structures. In case of modal damping ratios to control, an algorithm of optimal placement of viscous dampers is presented.And the seismic response of the eccentric structure with viscous dampers is calculated by using the complex modal method. The numerical results show that the method is simple, clear, exact, reliable and suited to be generalized in design.
