Due to open-eyesight and good-perspectivity, Point Supported Glass Curtain Wall has been increasingly used on some public building. This new type curtain wall has been researched and developed since 1960s overseas, whereas domestic enterprises are eagerly and quickly grasping this technique from enlighten stage to developed stage. This paper has studied Point Supported Glass Curtain Wall in a deeper level, applying methods of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Optimization Design to this field so as to solve difficulties in the structure design. The main content and achievements of the paper are briefly summarized as following: Deducing and verifying the formula of deflection about 6-point-supported-glassBased on a series deducing of mathematics and physics, the formula of deflection about 6-point-supported-glass has been gained, subsequently verified through FEA. A conclusion can be safely obtained: under the condition of considering geometric size C, which is a measurement from the center of a hole to the nearest side in the 6-point-supported-glass, the analytic approach and the numerical analysis approach (i.e. FEA) have a smooth unanimity, thus supplying a theoretical basis on which practical formula can be deduced through FEA. Study of practical formula about strength and rigidity of 6-point-supported-glassUsing the Super SAP FEA software to solve different calculation models-which have different parameters, such as a/b, a/c and so on, this paper achieves a series maximum deflection coefficients and maximum stress coefficients, then form calculation formulas of maximum deflection and maximum stress under the load of wind. Compared with other documents, these formulae more comprehensively consider all situations of varying areas from small glasses to large ones. With the change of parameter a/c, the coefficients are changing. Study of Optimization DesignThis paper programs three Command Batch Files that can respectively perform optimization designs of 4-point-supported-glass, 6-point-supported-glass and the specially designed 6-point-supported-glass (with tow elastic supports). These Command Batch Files benefit structure designers who familiar with ANSYS command. This paper accordingly draws up Quickly Consulted Tables for those who do not familiar with ANSTS command. These tables can more effectively help designers confirm optimized plan in the bid designs. This paper also draws a important conclusion: with tow elastic supports in the middle of 6-point-supported-glass, we can effectively better the capacity of glass to bear loads, so as to thin the glass, which will be safe and economical.In the end, this paper summarizes the content and raises some problems to be further researched.
