The application of the point supported glass technique in the modern foreign architecture –in this thesis the author describes the definition, classifications, and the history of the point supported glass technique. The author also systematically studies a number of modern foreign architectures with the applications of point supported glass in curtain wall, roof, and the other parts. The advantages and disadvantages of point supported glass techniques are discussed. A systematical classification on point supported glass techniques in curtain wall and roof is proposed.The thesis is organized as follows. The first chapter provides an overview of the history of the point supported glass.The second chapter presents the definition of point supported glass, and describes the constituent, the aesthetic characteristics, technical advantages and disadvantages of point supported glass techniques.The third and fourth chapters describe the applications of point supported glass on curtain wall and roof respectively, and summarize their design features based on real world examples. The fifth chapter describes other applications of point supported glass on other parts, such as stairway, armrest, sculpture, and so on. The sixth chapter summarizes the current influences of point supported glass techniques on modern architecture designs, and provides insights on future trends of point supported glass applications.
