Absence of essential information resource is becoming one of the most serious bottlenecks to block the development of CAID especially in our country. Aiming provide the designers with a web based information resource platform to aid ID (industrial design) activities such as aesthetic design, ergonomic design etc., promoting their accumulation of CAID knowledge and experience, and facilitating their information exchange by web, the concept of web based CAID information resource system (WBIRS) has been presented and then this CAID WBIRS (especially for machine tools' ID ) has been studied and constructed. In addition, this system can also be combined used with the CAID System-CD (China design) developed formerly by our Institute of Industrial Design of Northwestern Polytechnical University.The key research work in this thesis include:1. Analyzing of information requirement is the foundation to set up this system. All kinds of related information needed for CAID of machine tools have been widely collected, carefully analyzed and sorted, that can be used as valuable ID information core for developing WBIRS. Furthermore framework of system has also been achieved by further extraction of the above information. Requirement analyzing here has also taken the consideration of trend of ID in account.2. Advanced constructing methodologies for developing information system, including structured cycle method and IDEF methods, have been introduced to the research of WBIRS. The developing procedure of the system has been defined. The functional and information modeling also been accomplished.3. The database system has been set up, which can meet the demand of parameterized design and of multi-kind information. This database system can also be used as the foundation for further building the ID knowledge base and expert base.4. By programming with ASP, WBIRS has been finally realized and be tested with a machine tool design case.In the thesis, the web based information resource system for CAID, the research and developing of this system are the originated valuable work.
