Distributed object computing is an important technology of computer software development. It has better opening capability and more expansibility than traditional developing technology. Object oriented middleware is the best application of distributed object computing technology. With the rapid development of computer hardware, computer science and communication technology, database and Internet technology, the automation software has the following trends: opening capability, the enterprise information platform, internet information service and the consumer oriented design of software. It is involuntary that we should make use of distributed object computing technology to humor the trends. So the thesis designed a middleware technology-based Electric Power Monitoring and Management System. In the thesis, first, the concept of distributed object model and middleware are introduced. Comparing with the traditional C/S model, the advantages of distributed object model are explained. And then, with the analyses of some typical middleware's characters, the thesis explains how to choose the appropriate middleware for a specifically application by considering the environments, integration requirement and enterprise requirement of the application.Thereafter, the design of a CORBA-based Electric Power Monitoring and Management System is expatiated. This design includes the system hierarchy architecture and object model, and the definition, implementation, organization and deployment of the distributed objects. Further more, the thesis lucubrates some key techniques: aiming at the management of the distributed objects, we skillfully construct the isomorphic project object tree for the real projects structure by using the CORBA naming service, and laconically and effectively implement the management of the services and modules by using the location service. And we also propose a design which uses CORBA event service and Borland MIDAS to implement the distributed data service in a creative way and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this design at the same time. Soon afterwards, a typical application of this design is illustrated, which proves that the design is feasible. At the end, the thesis sums up the achievements and puts forward the problematic points to be perfected in this system.
