Green Design and Manufacture are necessary for the manufacturing industry to realize sustainable development. As one of their fundamental technologies, LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) has been a research field in which many research institutions and organizations in the world are interested. So carrying out research on LCA of electromechanical products, which consume the most resource and produce the most waste, is imperious and important. On the basis of studying LCA theories and methods intensively, the paper builds up an indicator architecture of LCA for electromechanical products, which possesses a hierarchy and good operability and credibility. Properties of environment, resource, source of energy and economy are all got consideration in it. According to ISO 14040 series standards and characteristic of electromechanical products, the paper establishes a LCA model for electromechanical products (EMP-LCA). On the basis of the model, it discusses how to define goals and scope of EMP-LCA, and how to deal with the data in inventory analysis. In addition, it particularly discusses how to apply the method of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to EMP-LCA, including how to carry out characterization, normalization and weighting. Making full use of the theories and methods above, the paper designs and develops a software system for EMP-LCA. IDEF0 method is used in the system design and the technology of object-oriented design is utilized in the detail design and development. The dynamic characteristic of the EMP-LCA database and the integration between EMP-LCA software system and CAD are also realized. At last, taking LCA of the coffee machine as example, the paper validates the theories and methods about EMP-LCA and the EMP-LCA software system.
