Green design could meet the demand of consumer for green consumption, at the meantime, green design is the inevitable choice for sustainable development and the most effective way to eliminate the green trade barriers. Life cycle assessment, as a key technology of green design, has a very active role for the analysis of the impact on the environment in the life cycle of products. Life cycle assessment has been a great success in many industries, and plays an important role in the process of decision-making. Life cycle assessment has become a powerful tool to analyze the environmental characteristics of products and support the decision. This paper applied life cycle assessment in design of refrigerator, put forward a design method to optimize the environmental performance of products based on fuzzy hierarchy analytic process (FHAP). At first, life cycle assessment software tool– Gabi was used to evaluate the environmental performance of materials, and then get the normalization scores; disassembility and recyclability of products were evaluated to get the quantitative scores; FHAP was used to weight the three factors– environmental performance of materials, disassembility and recyclability of products, and the overall environmental performance scores of products were obtained, which help to compare the environmental performance of each structure and the optimal structure was selected; at last, according to the design method to optimize the environmental performance of products, the refrigerator was used as an example to get a design program of special parts of refrigerator, and the design program was compared with the prototype refrigerator to verify the excellence of the program.
