In general, the processes of calculating the displacement, velocity and acceleration of complicated multi-DOF planar mechanisms are quite complicate in mechanisms analysis. Therefore, in order to simplify the kinematics calculation of multi-DOF planar mechanism, a novel computer simulation approximate approach is presented. In this dissertation, the kinematics analysis of several typical multi-DOF planar mechanisms by using novel computer simulation approximate approach and analytic approach are studied, and explained as follow:(1)The features of computer simulation approximate approach are analyzed, based on some kinds of analysis methods for mechanism kinematics. In analysis of mechanism kinematics, the graphic calculation is visual and intuitive, but has some drawbacks such as poor repeat and low accuracy; On the other hand, the analytics is high accuracy, but needs huge calculation and understanding. Especially for the complicated and multi-DOF mechanisms, it is very difficult for this method to establish related mathematical models. However, the computer simulation approximate approach not only clearly indicates the changes of mechanism position, velocity and acceleration orientation by means of figures, but also obtains the closely same accuracy of the analytics without the boring calculation. Since the new method presented in this paper would not be limited by the mechanism complication, we can find it more effective if in use for more complicated mechanism.(2)The theory basis and realization methods of the computer simulation approximate approach are discussed in this paper. By using the geometric constraint, the dimension constraint, the dimension equation and the dimension driving techniques of CAD, the typical simulation mechanisms are created. After that, the velocity simulation mechanism and the acceleration planar simulation mechanism are created, and the velocity and acceleration of mechanism are solved.(3)The kinematics analysis of some typical mechanisms such as serial 2-DOF and 3-DOF mechanisms, parallel 2-DOF and 3-DOF mechanisms and cam mechanisms are analysed by the computer simulation approximate approach. Thisapproach is proved feasible in theory by the result comparison with those using mathematical analytical methods for these mechanisms.
