Universal tool maker's microscope is widely used in the optical metrological instruments for the sake of performance stabilization, high measurement accuracy and convenient operation. But the inherent weakness of the traditional optical metrological instruments is one restriction for the use in some cases, such as uneasy aiming, eye reading and high intension for long-time work, and it cannot keep up with the demand of the increasing digitization and the IT age.For the digitization retrofit of the eye-reading universal tool maker's microscope, auto reading on the spiral-reading microscope is achieved on the condition of unchanging the monolithic construction. The digital image of the field range of the spiral-reading microscope on universal tool maker's microscope is acquired through matrix CCD and stored in the SRAM. The image is processed using digital image processing methods and the result is recognized. Then the measuring result is given out with the numeric format.The work can be divided into two parts:Suitable preprocessing and recognition methods (software): the good method of the preprocessing is the base of the recognition. In the subject matter, edge detection and mathematical morphology are usd for the preprocessing and the binary image is obtained. Template matching and pre-preserved accuracy methods are used in the high-speed and high degree accuracy recognition.Independent data auto-acquisition and reading system (hardware): The miniaturized instrument includes the acquisition and digitization of the video siginal, the storing, processing and recognition of the digital image, and the display of the binary image and the result. DSP is the core controlling device of the system. The matrix CCD and the vedio decoder are the acquisition part of the vedio signal. The FLASH memory and SRAM are the storing part. The LCD is the output part of the image and the result. The auto-reading of the Spiral-Reading Microscope of Universal Tool Maker's Microscope is actualized through the above two parts work with holding the high degree accuracy and high speed.
