Nowadays , China is experiencing rapid urbanization. Urban renewal is during the, acceleration of industrialization and fast change , such as : industry structure adjustment, land use transition and population structure alteration . Urban renewal is up against not only the physical aging but also structural and functional decline. Further more protection of the tradition and historic heritage will be involved too. Therefore in urban rewewal, it is very important to change smoothly . In an other word , in order to meet the demands of urban vitality and social advancement, in urban renewal when the old was replaced by the new, it is important to ensure the urban spacial form develops continual and orderly. Based on the research of urban space and the ubiquitous problems of Chinese cities , the concept of "urban fragments" was brought forward . And according to the theory of system , this concept was analyzed by city stucture and city texture . Then , based on the rice reference of urban design studies and practice , this paper sum up three couples of design methods . In the end, this paper put forward three principles of urban design for "city fragments" . Further more with the reasoned analyse, the corresponding design thoughtway and strategies was provided.
