The construction vibration control is one of the hot problems within the seismic fortification techniques now. The viscoelastic damper and the application of viscoelastic damper in the high-rise building discussed in this paper, are part of the study about the application of the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses techniques. The viscoelastic damper that made of viscoelastic material is a kind of representative passivity control devices. It reduces the seismic response of structure by adding the damping and dissipating the vibration energy of the structure. Because mis device is simply and the components are cheap, the viscoelastic damper has a broad application foreground.In this paper, I consulted the Code for seismic design of buildings and the domestic and overseas present research results in this field, analyzed the mechanics performance of viscoelastic material and viscoelastic damper, discussed the design method of the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses structure system, generally summarized the energy design method of the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses structure.In this paper, the research object is based on a 24-layer steel high-rise building. Three structure systems such as frame, frame-support and the dissipate energy and reduce seismic responses structure installed with viscoelastic damper are used to build up as three-dimensinal modals. A finite element mathod ANSYS program is used to analyze the modals' intrinsic vibration characteristics. ANSYS program is also used to analyze the elastic dynamic time history analysis of EL-centro seismic wave at usual level and elastic-plastic dynamic time history analysis at unusual level. The results are obtained after analysis and comparation.The research results illustrate mat the viscoelastic damper is not only can work effectively under usual level seismic but also can do under unusual level seismic. The structure's seismic fortification ability is markedly improved and the structure is more safty due to the viscoelastic dampers fixed in it. The structure fixed with feasible viscoelastic dampers, it's intrinsic vibration characteristics will not change markedly and it's seismic fortification ability improved markedly, and the building will be more suitable for inhabitancy. The viscoelastic dampers fixed in building extend the range of building' usage.Because the structure fixed with viscoelastic dampers has some particularity, and the study about this field is not so consummate, it is necessary to perform the optimize design. In this paper, the optimize design method is also simply discussed.
