The research on the Performance-Based seismic design of high-rise steel structure with viscoelastic dampers is presented in the thesis. In the fundamental theory aspects concerning the performance-based seismic design, a five-performance level classification for the high-rise structure is established, then with the seismic fortification levels, according to the importance and functions of the buildings, Four categories of performance objectives for high-rise steel structure are established. At last, the application of the damping control technology that can realize the higher performance objectives is elucidated. In the basic analytical methord concerning the performance-based seismic design, the nonlinear time-history analysis and nonlinear static analysis as the analytical technology achieved the performance-based seismic design are applied to analyze the high-rise steel structure with viscoelastic dampers.Firstly, an efficient and accurate algorithm that deals with the inflection points is caculated with two numerical integration algorithm; then the computing programmes applied to the analysis of the viscoelastically steel building considered the P-Δ effect is compiled by Matlab language; the comparion of the results with two numerical integration algorithm and with the ETABS programe indicates that the compiled programme has preferable accuracy.Secondly, the application of the nonlinear static (NLS) analysis to the viscoela -stically steel structure is researched by the ETABS programe. The viscoelastically steel frames with different damper arrangement and different parameters are analyzed under several typical lateral loads. The results indicate that the calculations with NSL analysis are less than that of the calculations with the spectrum analysis. The results also indicate that there are some difference between the calculations of the linear time-history analysis and nonlinear time-history analysis under different seismic waves, but the results reflect the average level of different seismic waves. All these show that the application of the NLS analysis in the viscoelastically damped high-rise steel structure has the feasibility in some degree.Based on the established performance objectives and the research of the NLS analysis, the Performanced-Based seismic design applicable to the viscoelastically damped high-rise steel structure is proposed, at the same time, the design process and the design flow are provided. At last, the design example shows that the provided...
