As the principal power supply equipment in the power system, transformer's safely function will be directly related with the operation of the power network. It is an important method to detect the interior breakdown of transformer through dissolving the gas chromatography in the oil. With the development of power network and the improvement of voltage, the technology of dissolving gas chromatography is also improved.According to the gas separated out of the interior of the transformer, the hidden trouble in the transformer can be analyzed, especially it's overheat, electric arc and insulation. Gas chromatography can analyze the dissolving gas of the oil in the transformer and can diagnose and predict the trouble in the transformer, which is a very significant work to fulfil the maintenance of the transformer.This paper does research on the application of dissolving gas chromatography in the oil of transformer in one of Jiansu Power Plants and Lianyungang Power Supply Company. Based on analyzing status quo of the technology of monitoring and diagnosis on the gas chromatography inside and outside the country, the paper fully illustrates the relationship between the mechanism of dissolving gas of the oil and the types of hitch. It also illustrates detailedly the characteristic gas method of trouble-diagnosis and the ratio method of the characteristic gas and their application. It earnestly researches into the error causes in the chromatographic analysis and gave the proper solutions.
