The progress of the technology of the computer represents that of the modern science and technology. The constantly improving technology of the computer is influencing and guiding the innovation of the technology. The virtual instrument based on the technology of computer is promoting the revolution of observation and control technology with irreversible strength.The technology of USB is one new standard of industrial bus in PC system. It will become a new trend to apply the technology of USB in measure instrument. According to the high performance of USB such as: cheap; high speed; low power consumption and PNP, the paper puts forward a design of virtual oscillograph based on USB.The paper is organized as follows. Section 1 introduces the characteristic and application of the virtual instrument and shows the composition of the virtual oscillograph based on USB. Section 2 discusses the selection of the plan for how to design this system. Section 3 introduces the design of the data acquiring system. Section 4 talks about the USB Specification. Section 5 mainly introduces how to realize the USB protocol in the D SP sy stem. S ection 6 e xplains t he m ethod o f designing a USB device driver and INF file, it also introduces how system loads a USB driver when the USB device is plugged in. Section 7 discusses the design of the application program of the virtual oscillograph.The paper discusses the application of the technology of USB in the design of software and hardware of virtual instrument, and brings forward a feasible solution.
