Subject: Research on GIS-Supported Automotive Maintenance and Repairing Network Planning MethodologyWith the rapid motorization the urban vehicle fleets grow quickly in China and the growing market for automobiles will require expansion of related services such as automobile maintenance facilities, vehicle inspection, and parking facilities. To benefit from the advantages of motorization and avoid its potential problems such as environment, public health, municipalities must initiate or expand comprehensive development planning that would embrace urban land use, and urban auto services.Passing through 40 years development of geographic information system(GIS), GIS theory and methodology comes mature, and it has been widely applied in city planning, urban land use management, facility management which related to spatial information. But in auto services network planning, the application of it is rare.It takes Beijing as the study area. The main contents of this paper are as the fallowings:Firstly, it introduces the automotive services of Beijing. Assuming continued massive urban construction, along with Beijing's vehicle fleet rapid growth, although it will bring many benefits to automotive services, it also will present the urban services and its network with serious challenges.Secondly, it tries to find an efficient way to integrate the traditional plan analysis models and method with modern GIS theories and methods. On the basis of auto services function analysis and its activity factors analysis, it puts forward some automotive maintenance & repair network analysis methods such as the spatial overlay analysis, buffer analysis, spatial query analysis, grid densityanalysis, spatial objects analysis, environment influence analysis, and road infrastructure analysis, etc.Thirdly, it designs and sets up an Automotive Maintenance & Repair Network Spatial Information Database of Beijing based on spatial database technology and component GIS technology, and then integrates the GIS spatial analysis methods and model visualization functions with the traditional statistic and forecasting methods.As the last part of the paper, it introduces results of the Beijing automotive maintenance & repair network plan which comes from GIS assisting analysis.It offers an convenient analysis tool using GIS methodology, which can process a great amount of spatial data, show it straightly, and making the plan administration dynamically come true...
