Owing to advanced performance, the NIMH battery gradually becomes popular all over the world. As a result of many undefined factors, such as the manufacturing technology, there is some difference on performance between the NIMH batteries. In order to acquire some batteries whose performance is more similar, we must sort the NIMH batteries by means of capacity testing. A lot of companies have developed some NIMH battery testing-and-sorting equipments, but these expensive equipments are mostly hard to spread because of the simple testing process and the complex structure. In order to satisfy the various needs, a new automatic testing-and-sorting system for the MINH battery is developed. In this thesis, the detail of theories and methods about the new design scheme are discussed.In this scheme, the main unit of the lower-modulator is composed of the MCU. The main functions of the lower-modulator are stopping and changing the charging-and-discharging conditions, the A/D transforming of voltage, the transporting of the voltage data. The topper computer modulator is a PC. Excepting for controlling the lower-modulator, the topper computer modulators' function include the judging the real-time working conditions and displaying the real-time wave, and so on. In this thesis, the function and design procedure of a new automatic testing-and-sorting system on the MINH battery is introduced, the emphasis are the patterns of charging-and-discharging, the constant current charging-and-discharging unit circuit, the framework and protocol of the communications between the topper computer and the MCU, the realizable method about the design of the structure of the real-time control software.MCU-based controllers are designed, and implemented respectively to carry on the experiment. A set of reliable communication structure has been built between the topper computer and the MCU. After receiving the voltage data, the topper computer can draw the charging-and-discharging curves. Meanwhile, controlled by the topper computer, the lower-modulator can set the current correctly, transform the state of charging or discharging, carry out the A/D conversion. The experiments show thatthis system's performance has achieved the design requirements for the hardware and software.
