Study On Application Of Simulation Technique In Urban Design

Urban designers tend to be facing more collision from different information and different subjects, since the modern city design coming to be pluralism and multi-disciplinarily. It is a new challenge for traditional urban design methodology that how to increase public participation opportunities and help policymakers make better informed decision at several levels by making all relative information more accessible and a clearer understanding. This paper discusses the simulation technology as applied to the process of urban design from methodology,technology and practice, and tries to provide a new thinking of multiple interdisciplinary crossing for urban design in method.Firstly, this paper summarizes the conception and addresses the research category, and brings forward the theoretical foundation and the technology's feasibility of applying simulation technology in urban design. By rethinking the method of urban design, the paper advances a new idea of solving the problem recurring to the simulation technology.Secondly, three aspects of simulation technology applied in urban design are highlighted in the paper. Particularly there are urban scenes simulation, decision support and public participation in the design process. The preponderance and original character of technology applying are proposed. The author discusses the new method of urban design in the view of new technology application, and gives out a general conception to solve the problem in urban design currently. Lastly, the paper analyzes the feasibility of an urban simulation and its impact to urban design,and then,a conceptual framework fitting urban requirements of urban simulation system is presented for establishing theory foundation to apply simulation technology in urban design.As a conclusion, by applying simulation technology in urban design process and realizing the urban simulation system, designers can make their design more apprehensible to public, strong technical support can be made for the design, comment and decision of alternative scenarios, and then the quality and efficiency of urban design will be improved significantly.
