Excitation regulator is an important part of the synchronous generator excitation system. It' s also important for safely and stably running of the generator and the electric power. Excellent excitation controller system not only could guarantee the generator running safely, offer qualify electric power, but also could enhance the static stability and transient stability of the electric power system.The feature, present condition and existing problems are described in the article. Then the principle and the realization method of microcomputer excitation regulator are also discussed. In order to improve the reliability of the excitation control system and dynamic quality more greatly, a dual microcomputer excitation regulator is researched by using TMS320F2812 DSP as the control center in this paper.At first, the reliability is analyzed by qualitatively about microcomputer excitation system and dual microcomputer excitation system. And then the scheme of those is analyzed and compared based on the reliability and the higher reliable scheme of the dual microcomputer excitation system is confirmed finally. Secondly, the paper introduces the constitution of hardware circuit of dual microcomputer excitation regulator and its software design, presents the schematic diagram of hardware and the flowchart of the software, and with them the fast AC sampling, frequency measurement, digital shift phase trigger pulse and communication of dual microcomputer excitation systems etc, are realized in one chip by taking advantage of the characters of TMS320F2812, such as high performance processing capabilities, plenty of peripherals on chip andhighly real time control and so on. The switch unit of the dual microcomputer and fault detection which are the crucial components of dual microcomputer excitation regulator are also presented minutely. And their hardware circuit is also designed. At last, the math model of excitation system is founded and through MATLAB simulation, the effect of PID parameters and sampling cycle on the stability of excitation system is analyzed, which can be used in the setting of regulator parameters.
