Concurrent design is a new approach for product design. It requires designers to consider all aspects of product life cycle in the design phase so as to shorten product development time, reduce product costs, and improve product quality. Hence, the assessment of design projects has become one of the important problems that must be researched while implementing concurrent design.Based on the analysis of current product concurrent design assessments, the system framework of the synthetic evaluation system for product concurrent design is established after studying the characteristic of decision activity and analysing the requirement of the evaluation system in concurrent design process inthis paper. The evaluation method for product concurrent design and the evaluation support tool are studied deeply and systematically. Aiming at design characteristic for various phases of product concurrent design, the system assessment model with the objectives and contents of assessment is proposed. Based on the model, the different levels assessment index system is established. The feature technology is introduced, and the product data model based on feature for concurrent design is established. Adopting the method of evaluation based on qualitative and quantitative, as well as rule-based evaluation, analysis and evaluation of cast, machinability, and part structure are processed in detail. After discussing product assemblability, the methods and related algorithm based on binary tree modeling and generalized link are realized to evaluate product assemblability. The product general schemes evaluation and optimum selection decision model based on fuzzy optimization is built, according to the decision-making process of concurrent design, a fuzzy multi-stage decision-making model is presented for concurrent design, fuzzy stratification synthetic evaluation method is presented to evaluate product design schemes. The prototype of synthetic evaluation system for product concurrent design is developed. The run result shows that the structure of the system is reasonable and the system possesses strong adaptability.
