As the increasing intense competition of mechanical manufacturing market, companies must shorten products design cycles, improve products' quality, reduce the costs of products. Only doing these can they survive and develop. Since 1970s, CAD techniques have been used extensively in the area of mechanical designing, but the most mechanical CAD systems only have two-dimensional functions. Because the two-dimensional designs have not the functions of simulation of moving and stress analysis, mistakes are easy to appear and this will result in producing process or accessories useless and so on. In recent years, three-dimensional designing technique have been used and popularized gradually in the manufacturing industry. Because of this, the developing cycle of products can be shorten effectively through dummy processing, assemble and estimate to avoid designing defects from the products' designing, so the costs of developing and manufacturing could be decreased. Grab bucket is the tool of crane, and it can be used in ports, industry and mining. So it is necessary to develop and employ the three-dimensional designing software of grab buckets.This text combines three-dimensional design and case-based reasoning technology, apply it to grab bucket design field, and propose the procedure of grab bucket design based on case-based reasoning, developing a set of three-dimensional grab buckets design system.The three-dimensional model, which combine the construction characteristics of grab bucket, adopted the methods of the the-top-down modeling. During the process of model-creating, the author thought and defined the assembling relation of the parts of grab buckets, and assured the related parts' dimensions of the model are identical, so it makes the designers avoid designing faults.The text investigated the actual design of grab bucket, and found the designing method is identical to the basic thought of case-based reasoning. According to this, the paper advances designing flow of grab bucket which is based on the case-based reasoning. This flow may absorb the successful experience of the products alreadyexist, and accord with the designing habit of designers, so it is quite practical. Combine three-dimensional technique, the paper also develops the methods of express and search of grab bucket. Sum up present designing and manufactural experience of grab bucket, this text builds knowledge house and designing criterion house of grab bucket.Based on the SolidWorks, the author research and develop a set of three-dimensional grab bucket design system which is convenient and intuitionistic. With the help of the menu, users can create and assemble three-dimensional model, simulation of moving and stress analysis, etc. Finally, the drawing of the new products can be created automatically through three-dimensional model.
